How to Convert Sony ARW RAW Files to JPG

Yes. The tool reads ARW (and the older SRF, SR2) RAW files directly, decoding them on-device.

ARW, SRF, and SR2 are all Sony RAW formats

ARW is the standard RAW format used by Sony's current α and FX series mirrorless cameras. SRF and SR2 are older variants from earlier bodies. The tool handles all of them the same way — drop the file in and it decodes directly, without needing Imaging Edge first.

Handling a burst of hundreds of ARW files

Sony bodies shoot fast bursts, so a single session can easily produce hundreds of ARW files, and each one is already sizable on its own (typically 20-50MB and up). Exporting and compressing each one by hand isn't realistic — a more practical approach is to cull down to the keepers first, then batch-convert.

Batch-converting a full folder

Drop the culled ARW folder in as a batch and download a ZIP once conversion finishes. For a long batch, test compression strength on a few representative shots first — high ISO and backlit frames are worth checking specifically.

  • Keep the tab open and prevent the computer from sleeping during a long batch.
  • Keep the original ARW files backed up separately; save compressed output under new filenames.
  • Spot-check high-ISO frames individually rather than trusting batch defaults for everything.
