Which Browsers Support Folder Automation?

Folder automation depends on the browser's File System Access API, which is currently implemented only in Chromium-based browsers — Chrome, Edge, and similar. Safari and Firefox don't support it.

Why only some browsers support this

The File System Access API lets a web page read and write folders on your computer directly, once you've explicitly granted permission — a relatively new, permission-sensitive browser capability. Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, and others built on it) have implemented it; Safari and Firefox haven't, for their own technical and privacy reasons.

If your browser doesn't support it

  • Switch to Chrome or Edge to use folder automation.
  • Or keep using manual drag-and-drop or folder-select batch compression — supported in every major browser, it just needs you to trigger each batch yourself rather than watching for new files automatically.
